Inclusion Localisation News Journalism Summit for Social Development was organized by Digital Empowerment Foundation and Intel on 5th December, 2013 in the 10th Manthan Award Asia Pacific. The Summit focused on role, impact and importance of digitalization in domains of Inclusion, Localisation and Media and discussion on future prospectus.

E-Sakhyam is a web portal that is designed for disabled people. The portal is completely accessible to people with disability and follows the principle of universal accessibility, based essentially on the idea of creating an obstacle free environment. The portal acts as a one stop authenticated and standardized information center on the various activities taken up by State Commissioner. Online case management system and disability certificate repository are also the associated features offered by the portal. The system is technologically efficient, citizen centric and with accessibility features, so as to make it usable by persons with disabilities with 24×7 information repository. Certain assistive technologies such as Magnifier, Screen Reader, Text Resizer, contrast Adjuster are also supplemented for better viewing and usage.
Marathi Vishwakosh is the only Indian language encyclopedia available on internet for free in Unicode that depicts knowledge in Marathi. The ‘Vishwakosh’ has 23,000 printed pages online. Marathi Vishwakosh covers perspectives from various domains of Literature, Environment, Life Sciences, physics, chemistry, Nuclear Science, Botany, Biology, and Linguistics etc. The project makes an extensive utilization of Search Engine Optimization techniques; enabling its visibility in the top searches. Searches on the portal are also facilitated with Autosuggest, and Onscreen Keyboard facility. based on ‘Vishwakosh’ articles. Vishwakosh is meant for various strata’s of society viz. Students, Researchers, Journalists, Parents, Teachers, Housewives, Linguists, Senior Citizens and common man thereby satisfying their quest of knowledge, with over eight lakh fifty thousand visitors visited the portal so far. The portal also visions to come out in the form of an e-book and be backed up by various knowledge games, puzzles etc.
Xahitya.org is an ICT based intellectual movement that is for the common people by the common people. It has been dealt with writings in Assamese script completely based on UNICODE. The project also utilizes the social media platforms for reaching out to the masses. Xahitya aims to provide a platform to the budding Assamese writers and thought provokers to display their skills on a global level. It also caters to the community based efforts to preserve and promote cultural and literary heritage of the region in the era of Information technology using constructive power of social media. The Xahitya.org is a first website of North East India which is non-profit, voluntary website with self sustainability and has been visited 12000+ participants till date.
‘Halabol’ is a one stop destination of social information and action in India. It provided online tools to take instant actions on social issues using interactive outreach on social media platforms, through active engagements. Halabol has also been involved in raising funds for various social causes through its social media establishment. Some of its active and popular campaigns include the campaign against the acid attack, campaign for raising funds to bring electricity in remote villages etc. The programme archived social information vis- a-vis issue categories and active engagement through interactive content. Halabol has motivated 5,000 people to take a digital pledge on ‘Halabol’ for doing meaningful action in their lives.
Kannadanet.com is an online newspaper portal of north Karnataka providing local news and information to the local Kannada community since 2009. The website includes discussions and information dissemination on various domains including History, Business, Tourism, Education, Literature, Politics, and Governance. The organization also organizes quizzes, essay writing competitions, and other social activities for community involvement in schools and colleges. It also provides free computer training to the individuals, equipping them with required sills for employment in local BPOs, and offices. Kannadanet aspires to empower the Kannada community with information and knowledge sharing on the local heritage, culture, events and other happenings.
‘Child Sexual Abuse Awareness School Program’ is an initiative by ChildLine India Foundation. The project is designed to inform children about the various form of “touch”, and equip themwith necessary knowledge and resources to prevent and report sexual abuse through storytelling, and classroom sessions using animated films. Currently the project is running in Mumbai. ‘ChildLine India Foundation’ also has a countrywide helpline number and has received 27 million calls since 1997. It has created a more informed and active generation of students across the city of Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane.
